Amy Kraft: Week one - Country Music Deserves More Credit

Country music gets such a bad rep and in my opinion, it is not fair, and I'm not gonna lie I used to be one of those people who absolutely hated country music. I too thought country music was just about tractors and beer; well, some songs are on beer and tractors, but not all. Country music is so much more.

My love for country music was sudden, but after I was hooked, and I never turned back. It was early freshman year and I was driving home with my mom when I had the worst migraine. I didn't want to listen to the generic pop radio channel with loud autotuned music, as it would just make my headache worse. So I was channel surfing to find calm, but good music when I stumbled upon the country channel (99.9). The first song I heard was “A Guy With a Girl” by Blake Shelton. The country music helped my headache and even made it eventually go away. Once I got home, I started looking up other country songs, and from that point on it had become my favorite genre of music.

There are multiple types of country music; for example, pop country and, as I like to call it, country country. Pop country consists of songs by Florida Georgia Line or Dan and Shay, while country country songs consist of songs by Luke Combs or Chris Stapelton. I like pop country to a certain extent and so far I usually like country country the best. Also, not to be sexist or anything, I personally do not like songs by female country singers except for Carrie Underwood.

There are so many reasons to love country music: You can sing on the top of your lungs to it in the car, it is clean and respectable, patriotic, and just overall enjoyable to listen to. Right now some of my favorite songs are Hard to Forget - Sam Hunt, Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue - Toby Keith, Can’t Go to Church - Mitchell Tenpenny, Talkin’ Tenessee - Morgan Wallen, I Should Probably Go to Bed - Dan and Shay Lovin’ On You - Luke Combs, One of Them Girls - Lee Brice, I Don’t Want This Night to End - Luke Bryan, Little Rain - Morgan Wallen, A Long Way - Luke Combs, Tennessee Whiskey - Chris Stapelton, Dirt Road Anthem - Jason Aldean, and Huntin’, Fishin’ And Lovin’ Every Day - Luke Bryan, and my all time favorite song is Loud and Heavy by Cody Jinks.

  1. I completely agree country music doesn't get enough credit. Everyone loves country. If someone says they don't love country they need to get their head examined because country is the best music.
