Sammy Hodes Week 3 - Back To School

This year is different, there is no question about it. I can safely say something I never thought that me or any of my peers would have to deal with is going to school in a mask, following arrows to get from one location to another, and remaining socially distant from one another. That being said, it is the reality of the world we're living in now.

Times have certainly changed and solutions needed to be created. Life can not completely halt like it did from March until May of 2020. Until the Corona Virus is under raps with some sort of vaccine, people have gotten creative with ways to still live with a tinge of normalcy while still controlling the spread of the virus. Simply put, that is what our school did. Restrictions were put in place so that school is not dangerous.

I have only been in class for two days but it has been strange. There is no question it is nice to see both the friends and teachers I have grown up with. That being said, it is also not easy to look around the room and see all of those same people look like they're about to go into some sort of surgical procedure. It's hard to imagine what could've been. To say this is a weird way to have a senior year is an understatement. As if there needed to be any more weirdness, there are still many people that I am friends with that have not returned to school, splitting our grade into just about 50% at school and 50% not at school.

I think everyone can agree this virus is torture. Everyone that I know can not wait for the day that we can live like normal human beings again. Time will of course only tell when that will be. Until then, I do feel that it is impressive to be back and school. Hopefully sooner than later, we can go back to normal and this will be a memory to laugh about.

  1. I totally agree! You said everything I have been thinking! It's so weird to be back, but it's nice to be with all of these people who we have been with since kindergarten and get to spend our last year together.

  2. Yeah this is a really good take on the topic and I agree completely. It feels really good to be back in school at any capacity but it doesn't feel like it used to. I'm cautiously optimistic that we will see a return to normalcy sooner than later

  3. At first I hated hybrid when I came back on the first day but it is slowly growing on me. I like having some days that are a little busier when actually go into school and some days where we can stay home and take classes from home.

  5. I definitely agree on how different it feels. It felt nice to see people, but I don't know if it's worth being back like that.
