Zach Klein Week 2- Puppies during the Pandemic

During the quarantine period, many Americans are buying puppies to keep them company. As a person’s best friend, a dog cheers you up and brings you warmth. Personally, I know a couple people who have gotten dogs during the quarantine. One of them being Mr. Gabriel Winter. Gabriel believes it was a very good choice that they got Tucker. He says, “Tucker is awesome, he is like having a giant, cute rat in the house.” Who knew Gabe liked dogs that look like rats, but you learn something new every day. People like Gabe have enjoyed the presence of a new puppy during unfortunate times. Enjoy this picture of Tucker below.

Dogs are being adopted from kennels and puppy stores at a higher rate than ever. Matt Bershadker, “president of the American Society for the prevention of cruelty to animals reviews reports from 1,200 animal welfare organizations nationwide.” He explains how pet fostering is double the normal rate in New York and L.A right now. Sharon Gesser, “director of development for Peak Lab Rescue in Apex, North Carolina,” says they have had to stop accepting applications for foster dogs as they are receiving too many. Since people are home so often nowadays, dogs are getting more attention than they ever have. They are getting used to not being home alone. Once the pandemic settles, dogs are going to be depressed when their owners are out of the house more often. Depression in dogs may become widespread after the pandemic. I’m serious lol. Hopefully, that won't be the case, but I along with others see it as a possibility.

Do you wish you got a dog (or another dog) during the quarantine? Or if you did, how has it turned out?

  1. I would love so much to get a dog during this strange time! Unfortunately, I can't because one of my parents is allergic to dogs, but it's nice knowing that so many dogs are joining families in new homes right now. I hope they don't have too much trouble dealing with the absence of their owners once the pandemic calms down (regarding the possible increase of depression). Also, that picture of Tucker is adorable :)

  2. AWWWW Gabe's dog is so cute! I don't think I could handle 2 dogs, but at the same time, I kind of want a big dog like a German Shepard or a Lab or Husky. I'll probably get a big dog when I have my own house lol

  4. I wish we could get a dog, but I don't think our cat would be very happy. I think it's really sweet that so many people are looking to adopt or foster, but I do hope that the dogs are ok when they're alone. Dog depression sounds awful.

  5. Ahh!! I already have a dog but seeing this just makes me want another one. I think it's awesome that so many people are getting dogs right now (hopefully some of them are rescues?) because being home so often definitely gives you the opportunity to have the time for taking care of one. And Gabe's dog is so cute :(( I'm not usually a chihuahua person, but Tucker is adorable!
