Zach Klein week 3- School Returns

After a long-awaited six months, I was finally able to return to school. I never thought I would miss being in school so much, but the struggle was real. Seeing my teachers and classmates at school even distanced with a mask was something I was looking forward to. Being at home on a computer all day is torture for me. In order for me to learn to the best of my abilities, I need to hear and see it in person. Even though I'm glad to be in school for at least two days a week it is not the same as before the outbreak of COVID-19. Not all grades in high school are there together and fewer people are allowed in a classroom. It is hard to maintain distance with my friends when I see them in school, but that is for all of our safety.

In my opinion, students going to school is very important because it improves their mental health and allows them to socialize. They may have a slightly smaller risk of attracting COVID-19, but it is crucial for high school students to be in school with others their age. The rules enforced at Donna Klein Jewish Academy have allowed us, students, to feel safe while learning in school and not worry too much about attracting the virus. While one-way hallways and stairways may seem silly to some, they make sure there is more distance between people. I am glad that I can attend school feeling safe and learning via in person as opposed to zoom.

The school will not be the same until COVID-19 isn’t an issue in our society. Until then, we will have to make the best of things. I am disappointed that I can only go in every two school days and not the entire week. As I am writing this I am sad that I will be back at home learning tomorrow. I hope this will change in the near future and we will be allowed to go every day.

Do you prefer learning via zoom or going into school with social distancing rules? If you don’t feel it is safe to go into school, express your opinion in the comment section below.

  1. I am fully online right now but am looking forward to coming back to school. It is very true that the social aspect of learning is arguably as important as the academic piece especially seniors. It is great how innovative a school like Donna Klein has been during this time successfully adjusting to this difficult time in history while keeping their students safe.

  2. I'm all online too. It's nice to know that the school is taking the necessary safety and health precautions to protect the students! I hope by second semester there's a vaccine or something, so we can have at least half of a normal senior year. I've been managing pretty well with virtual learning, but I'm sure I'll get sick of it soon.

    1. Does the chicken and rice taste as good at home, or is tastier at school?

  3. Hey that's me! I'm so happy that everyone is taking the masks seriously - I think they made the school really safe... Looking forward to when more kids join in a few weeks.

  5. Very powerful take on school reopening. One can only hope that this is over sooner than later, but of course it's just a matter of time. I liked your point about making the most of things because I truly feel that's all we can do right now.
