Josh Rosenblatt week 8 - A Big Fluffy Pancake

Recently I have been really craving one thing.  A big fluffy pancake.  I haven’t had one since the beginning of quarantine and it's been too long.  There have been attempts in my family to make them, but no one is really a master chef in the Rosenblatt household.

We have been able to take out meals from restaurants for lunch and dinner, but we have yet to really get good breakfast food.  I am the only person in my family who eats breakfast somewhat regularly, and have been resorting to eggs and cereal over the past six months, but I’m getting tired of it.  I just want a pancake.

Today, I guess my mom rediscovered our old waffle maker and she surprised me with two waffles for lunch, but they did not reach my expectations.  They didn’t hold up and were basically falling apart after a few minutes.  It absolutely did not meet my craving for a good pancake.

I’ve been doing research.  In Boca Raton, there are a few good breakfast places that I will attend in the near future (hopefully).  My favorite has always been Bagel Works, but I usually just get bagels there and not pancakes.  First Watch is also another solid option.  I also managed to find a smaller place in East Boca called Tom Sawyer.  Years ago (about 7) my family would go there a lot, but we stopped going as it was very far from where we lived.  Now it is only about ten to fifteen minutes away from me and will probably be the first place I go to get a pancake.

  1. Pancakes are my favorite breakfast option as well. And I just did take out from first watch and got a chocolate chip pancake but it was not as fresh as eating one in the restaurant. But pancake house in west boca is definitely my favorite breakfast place. I hope you get your pancake soon :)

  2. I don't love pancakes but I have been in the mood for a certain type of pancake that Amy introduced me to in like 6th grade. Also, I loveeee First Watch! I order pretty basic but they have my favorite avocado toast and tomato soup!

    2. I think it's called a Swedish Pancake, but Amy could verify as she introduced me to it:))

  3. Tom Sawyer is around the corner from my house. We used to go there almost every weekend, though it's been years, probably. I LOVE pancakes. And waffles. And french toast (which is what I always get at first watch - the croissant french toast). Aaaand now I want to go to Keke's, which is a breakfast place walking distance from my house. They have MASSIVE pancakes with all sorts of stuff mixed in. Mmm... maybe I'll make pancakes for dinner. I hope you're happy, Josh.

  4. Pancakes are a good breakfast food for sure. Personally I'm not always the biggest fan of breakfast but if I'm going to eat something pancakes are a good contender! We used to make fresh maple syrup that we tapped from a tree in our backyard and that on pancakes in the morning was just perfection. I would also sell my soul for pumpkin pancakes right now.

  5. I see you have avoided the question that divided all pancake lovers: do you pour syrup on your pancake, or do you use the syrup as more of a dipping sauce? This is very important and worth fighting people over.

  6. First watch is the place to go, no question! They have the best pancakes with the perfect ratios of density, diameter, and height. The pancakes absorb syrup and can hold toppings, but they don't get soggy and fall apart. Hence, a perfect pancake!
