"Letter"
By Joseph Fasano
"Letter" is a poem that is very insightful about the stars and the sky and about how everyone wishes to be some thing more when they look up. When we look at the stars we see that there is so much out there that is achievable and yet we find so hard to reach we all exclaim as the poem says "All I want is to be more of what I am." (Fasano, The Letter). The author sets a gloomy tone and makes it seem as though he has gone through some type of heart break talking about how we used to look at the stars "before ash was ash." (Fasano, The Letter). By doing this we are getting a first person view into the life of the narrator and how he is clearly going through some hard time where he remembers how he and likely everyone was so ambitious about life before everything became so complicated. We used to look up at the stars and wonder about how we can change and ponder the beauty and somehow we have lost that. He shows us that only though hart break and loss can we find what we once had which is a sense of imagination and hope for what is to come.
I believe this is a great poem that illustrates what life is really like. Everyone goes through struggles and heartbreak and we sometimes forget about the simple things and this poem really helps us understand that sometimes we must look up at the stars and forget about what has happened and look to the future instead.
This sounds like a great poem and a great message! I'm glad you're enjoying.
ReplyDeleteLooking up at the stars has to be one of the best forms of therapy. Any worries vanquish when I realize how indefinitely inconsequential they are.
