"Asymmetries"
I was looking for a poem this week and "Asymmetries" caught my eye. It is a very compelling realistic poem about relationships whether they are romantic or platonic. Where typically there arises an inconsistent level of appreciation and care for one another where one person shows more effort than another. Armantrout connects to the reader with this concept that she chose because it resonates with most who have experienced this phenomenon.
Armantrout also shows maturity as she wishes the best for this person who is clearly not in her life anymore. Her work shows that sometimes wishing someone the best is the most productive way to heal and move on.
The poem also addresses the concept of selfishness and how people do not recognize their character flaws. Rae says "I don’t know the man you picture when you see yourself walking around the world inside your head and I’m jealous of the attention you pay that person". I was amazed reading this line as Armantrout properly articulated into words what happens when someone becomes extremely selfish. In short, selfish people are not self-aware that they put more effort into themselves than anyone around them and do not properly reciprocate effort to their partner or friend.
I enjoy Armantrout's poems as they are relevant to common situations that we are faced with on a daily basis or situations that we will face one day.

I love your descriptions of her poetry. You make it sound like something I'd really enjoy reading!
