So we’re back with another entry of trying to understand Sam Sax’s life through the poems he writes. Last time I discovered that he had a rough upbringing with very irresponsible parents. This week’s poem is titled “On PrEP” and it really focuses on the relationship between Sax and his older brother. His brother had never treated him well growing up, verbally abusing Sax whenever he could. Sax was a smaller kid so he never could attempt to say anything back.
Sam Sax is a homosexual, and he feels he has never been accepted by the people closest to him for who he is. Especially his brother. His brother had always made fun of him for being gay. At his brother’s wedding, he took the time to publicly make fun of Sax asking “how many guys he’s (slept with) and not loved.”
The relationships Sax has had with his family just make you want to feel bad for him. He has no responsible person in his life where he can go. He seeks approval and gets none. It doesn’t surprise me he has turned to drugs and alcohol as mentioned in the previous poem.
I decided to do my own research outside of these poems to see what Sam Sax was up to today and I found absolutely nothing. The few poems available to me were all published within a short span of months in 2017. Since then there has been no sight of him, no writing, no blogs, no social media posts. I don’t know what happened to him, but I hope he is doing alright. This will be the end of my journey of learning about Sax’s life as I am eager to find a new poet to write about.
Unfortunate that his own family could not accept his sexuality. They should respect his choices.
ReplyDeleteI think it's really sad to never feel accepted especially by your loved ones. I wish he would continue to write poetry and show everyone he is stronger than they think.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad to read about. I hope he is ok today.
