Winter in Florida is nonexistent, but that doesn't mean we can't pretend it exists! Every year, the holiday season seems to start earlier and earlier. The question is:
When do we start listening to Christmas music? Some say after Thanksgiving. Some say after Halloween. Some even say after Labor Day.
The fact is, yesterday was November 2nd, and I realized, it was COLD out--well, in the 70s to be exact. But for Florida, that's cold. I was driving back home from the library around 6:15 PM, and it was DARK out. Then, I noticed that there was Christmas music playing on my car's radio. I felt a sudden urge to go to Starbucks and get a peppermint hot chocolate and a snowman cookie. If cold weather, early nightfall, and Starbucks doesn't scream "HOLIDAY SEASON," I don't know what does!
I guess my point is that the singular fact that winter is coming can change someone’s entire mood. I arrived home exhausted with hours and hours of homework to do, but for some reason, I was still feeling cheerful! Now, my unexpected mood-change due to the cold weather has got me thinking about where I should choose to go to college. I've always loved the idea of Boston, but I'm scared that I won’t love being in the cold since I've never experienced that before. But now that I've had this experience, maybe I should go to Boston for college. Who knows, I may love the cold weather! I can just see myself at Boston University with my hot Starbucks in-hand, wearing a fashionable coat on my way home from the library. I guess we'll see!
There is definitely something ironically cozy about winter holidays! It makes me all excited to see people put lights around their houses, coffee shops announce seasonal flavors, and wear soft sweaters nonstop lol. A lot of schools I'm applying to are in cold places, so I've always wondered how I would handle such drastic weather changes compared to plain, hot Florida weather, too, but who knows? It might actually be exciting to live somewhere kind of cold and get the real seasonal change experience!
