Sarah Louis Week 14-Nature

 Nature

Although this past year has been an absolute pain I have discovered nature. Every day during lockdown I would go on a walk exploring my neighborhood and would walk outside of my neighborhood. I live all the way out west so my neighborhood is surrounded by nature preservation, multiple parks, and a really tall oak tree. I never appreciated nature as throughout the past four years of high school I would constantly be working on my extracurriculars and studying. I would rarely explore nature. Though, this year all of this changed when the world came to a stop. All of a sudden I had extra time on my hands. Having had nowhere to go, I started getting out of the house by exploring different nature walks. I had a daily routine where I would walk (or bike) a couple of miles to South County and write poetry on a hill overlooking a beautiful lake. This is where I derived inspiration for many of my poems and written thoughts in my journal. I came to the realization that while the entire world was in disarray nature was a constant and the world's only form of stability.

Also because carbon emission levels subsided exponentially due to the halt of transportation, nature had a chance to heal during the lockdown period. Pollution and other harmful, potent substances were not released into the environment hurting animals and plants. Although we are allowed to leave our houses now I ensure to maintain my bond with nature and take walks every day while listening to my favorite internal medicine podcast. This makes me happy and helps contribute to my inner peace. Do you enjoy nature as well?
