Bella Furst | Week 16 Tangled Is One of the Best Disney Movies

Why is Tangled One of the Best Disney Movies, yet is so terribly underrated?

This scene is just *chef's kiss*

Lately, I've been on a spree of just rewatching a ton of Disney animated films (including Pixar, duh), but while watching Tangled and eating my own body weight in chicken nuggets, I came across a thought: Why does literally nobody ever talk about Tangled? This movie is a godsend. And I simply cannot fathom why it is that we so rarely talk about it!! I understand there's a ton of great Disney films and that picking one to watch is a task all in itself, but Tangled is so fantastic, why is it not in your top 3? Why do you never talk about it?
Let's break it down for a second: Flynn is hilarious and isn't your typical Disney prince. He's a criminal and generally is very selfish, but is so gentle with Rapunzel. He's also just so entertaining and the film's narration is so phenomenal, as it's done literally by him and he's constantly sarcastic. He's the Deadpool of Disney. It's both a coming of age story and an action-drama with the sweetest romance scenes!! The characters are fun and relatable and it's so easy to love all the characters.
The story isn't also just about Rapunzel!! It's about Flynn too, which is so refreshing from a Disney princess movie standpoint. Not to mention, the music is so great!! There's not a single song in the film that is not an absolute banger and everything is super catchy and overall beautifully well-done.
This may seem more like me just rambling about how much I adore Tangled, but I need you to understand that this is one of my favorite movies in... ever... and I need more people to recognize this cinematic masterpiece. Great characters, great cinematic visuals, great plot, great music, AND it's the first Disney animated film done entirely with CGI. You can't look at me and tell me this movie isn't perfect when it's this good.

Rewatch Tangled. Please. I promise you won't regret it.

Other underrated Disney films you should watch (that are... actually underrated): The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Aristocats, Treasure Planet (if you simp for Sokka, you can simp for Jim), and one of my most favorite favorite movies: Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

  1. Wow we clearly don’t talk much because if we did, you would hear how much I bring that movie into daily conversation. It is the classic “quest” archetype in literature, and many consider Flynn Rider an atypical Christ figure. So I often use this movie for examples in my AP lit assignments. I could do a whole part 2 to this blog... hmm maybe I will.

  2. I have always loved Rapunzel and the song "Mummy knows best" haha. I don't know why, but that song has stuck with me ever since I've seen the movie. Those other movies you mentioned are also greats especially The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Treasure Planet, both of which were my favorite movie at some point or another. Also that comment you made about Sokka, are you referring to Sokka from Avatar The Last Airbender? I didn't know girls liked him. I do know that all the guys love Katara though lol.

    1. Yes I’m referring to Sokka from Avatar!! He’s so funny and is the best comedic relief of the show (at least pre-Toph), and he’s just so amazing. Personally more of a Zuko fangirl, but know a ton of friends who’d die at Sokka’s feet. I get that a ton of guys love Katara, but hear me out: Ty Lee and Mai. Ty Lee is so fun and adventurous, and Mai has the dopest hair!!! Katara is really awesome, but sometimes she’s so annoying and stubborn that it makes me want to slap her with a dead fish. I don’t know, maybe just a me-thing lol.

  3. Wow I never thought of Tangled like this before. So I never really liked the movie (Hear me out) because I never actually saw it growing up and then I saw it at school for the first time and then almost every movie for a few years that we watched in lower school as like a day off, we watched tangled, so it was a bit of an overload. But after hearing yo compare it to Deadpool, which is a great movie, and just talking about it being an action musical, I might actually enjoy it more than I think.

  4. I didn't really ever watch this movie but I did grow up watching Pixar movies. I do think that a lot of them follow similar themes and characters are always going on quests in those movies. Pixar movies are great for teaching kids meaning in life.

  5. Yes, yes, yes! I love Tangled (and I think Adam definitely relates to your passion on this, too)! The characters are just so fun, the soundtrack is amazing, it has beautiful graphics, and Flynn (or Eugene haha) was always one of my favorite Disney "prince" (?) figures. The way the story focused a lot on him in addition to Rapunzel always reminded me of Aladdin (another favorite of mine, although I haven't yet watched the remake for a few reasons ). I've always wanted to watch/read The Hunchback of Notre Dame (you already know) but I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. Maybe soon, since I always hear good things about that one, too...

Mattan Masri- Week 16: Animation is not a Genre

Film awards like the Oscars often have a “best-animated film” category, and this is dumb. It’s like having a “best live-action” award. It’...
