I can't believe that after 10 whole years of playing basketball, it has come to an end. I still remember my first practice with Dana and her dad for West Boca Basketball and our games as we were little where most of our points came from lucky shots, and then fast forward to playing in middle school and winning the championship in both 6th and 8th grade to then highschool basketball. Sure, I can play here and there in college, but my competitive basketball career is over. Man, have these ten years been a roller coaster and there have surely been those ups and downs, most notably when I tore my ATFL ligament and needed surgery, but that’s old news. Most importantly, it has been an amazing ten years that I got to end on with a high note. That being said, let’s talk about that high note.
This past Tuesday we had our district runner-ups game (couldn’t play in the finals because the other team has a covid problem and it wasn’t worth it to risk it), and this game was the perfect game to end on. First off, the team was not that great, so it was fun to be able to play our game and score. And man that score was pretty impressive might I add: 65-13. And we can't forget my 28, but technically 30 points because Lenny called a time out as I was going up for the lay-up. All those points made up for all the shots and lack of points I had in the past games. I think the best part of the game was when Gabe began to mock the other team by yelling “Ball Ball Ball” just like they had the last time we played them. But that’s not the best part; he managed to piss off the other team’s coach enough to walk over to Gabe and try and yell at him but the ref stopped her and called a technical foul on her giving Zoey two foul shots. Gabe just has the ability to piss off adults. Overall this was just an amazing game to end our season and time playing basketball competitively, even if it was a bittersweet experience.

That was a great game to watch, and I think you calling it 'bittersweet' perfectly encapsulates the moment. It was so nice that you guys had a big win, but I could tell that you were all upset because your season was over (of course). We were all so nervous going into yesterday's soccer game knowing that it could be our last, and playing non-competitively in college won't compare to our high school games. You and Dana had a great run - you never know maybe you'll end up in the WNBA together.
ReplyDeleteDang, I'm sure this must've been a really heartfelt moment, even if it was quite bittersweet. (Belated) Congratulations of the team's win!! But, it is quite sad to see a lot of things we've loved throughout our childhoods or experienced through high school are approaching an end. I hope that while it lasted, you guys made really amazing memories and I think it's amazing that you were both on the team together for so long. Like Noah said, maybe you two are playing together in the future! But, you guys look so happy in the photos and though it's sad to see it end, I'm so happy you guys got to share so much of this together.
