Imagine spending nearly half a million dollars on a lamb.
Thankfully, we don't have to imagine it!! (But seriously, this is insane)

(I'm sorry, but this sheep does not look like a $500,000 investment)
I know this is super random, but for Belotto's class this week, we needed a current event and I wanted something fun- interesting, if you will. And it landed right in front of me! When it comes to sheep breeding, it's super common for farmers/breeders to bid on a sheep that has suitable traits so they can make a ton of money. It's just capitalism, baby <3

But Scotland's national animal being a unicorn isn't even the most obscure thing from there. Instead, it's the fact that a world record was set because nobody has ever paid basically $500k for a sheep. Because why would you? In any case, the previous world record was around $309k (which is still super crazy!!! you could buy a house for that much) and that was back in 2009, but Double Diamond, yes I promise that's the lamb's real name, broke that record! Three farmers decided to pay together and share this guy over their 3 separate farms and hope that with breeding they'll make the money back.
I think the funniest part for me was that one of the buyers literally acknowledged how insane it was and was basically like "Yeah, no, nobody pays this much for a sheep, this isn't normal, but it's fine! We'll make the money back!" I cry a little when I spend $25 on food, I can't even think of spending that much on one sheep. It would be a little funny if the lamb died from something really stupid and they lost their investment. Is it sadistic for me to say that? I hope I didn't just curse some poor lamb.
What do you think about a sheep being sold for $500k? :)
Bella side-note:
I'd pay $500,000 for this lamb, but only this lamb. Look at the little flower crown :( so cute

Wow this is crazy. I'll never understand what makes this sheep worth that much money.
