Rex Orange County has been my favorite music artist for about three years now. I found out about him Summer of 2017 when he came up in my Spotify recommendations. The first song I heard from him is called Best Friend. It's a song about wanting to be with a person even though you know you don't belong with them in the long run. Best Friend is a really easy song to love. It is one of those songs that you hear and love it the first time you listen.
The second song that I really started to like by Rex is called 4 Seasons. This song gave me an entirely different reaction. It is one of the songs that makes you go "ew this sounds weird and different" when you first listen, but it ends up getting stuck in your head and you have no choice but to play it on repeat until you are completely sick of it. It also made me cringe when I first listened to it because Rex is British and he raps and I just think that's a really funny combination. Another good song from the same album (Apricot Princess) is called Television/So Far So Good. It starts off very upbeat and makes you want to bop your head, but halfway through the song it slows down and gives you a moment to reflect. Apricot Princess in general really allowed me to discover my taste in music. When people used to ask me what music I like, I used to say "I don't listen music really". But before Rex, I used to get sick of listening to songs and I couldn't listen all the way through because of all the repetitiveness. Rex's music is alternative, so it involves so many different genres and switches up all the time, instead of just going through the same-sounding verses and then back to the same chorus a million times.
When Rex's third album, Pony came out, it was just what I needed in my life at the time. I cried to It's Not the Same Anymore as I listened to it on repeat. I felt I could relate to the song more than HE even could. Right now I feel like I need something more from him right now. Its time for a new album, Rex, come on!!
