Josh Rosenblatt Week 3 - Words can Hurt

There has been some controversy in the Big Brother All-Star House.  Ian Terry, a former winner of the show has been very open and vocal about being on the spectrum.  In his previous season, he would rock back and forth on the hammock as it soothed him.  Once he left that house, he learned that his cast-mates were not fond of his habits, but at the time nobody knew that Ian was on the spectrum (including Ian).  Ian was scared to comfort himself with the hammock this season as he didn’t want to make anyone else feel uncomfortable, but when he brought it up all the other houseguests seemed very understanding and told him to do whatever he needs to calm him down.

This past week, a group of four houseguests were seen mocking Terry’s habits.  The four in question are Memphis Garett, Nicole Franzel, Dani Briones, and Christmas Abott.  They were laughing at Ian, and comparing his rocking habits to a horror movie and “having nightmares” about it.  Earlier in the season I can also recall Dani saying that Ian was using his autism as a strategy in the game to gain sympathy.

In my personal opinion, all four of these people are extremely in the wrong, and it shows what kind of people they are in the outside world.  The words they uttered about Ian have absolutely nothing to do with the game of Big Brother.  As a result, Nicole Franzel, another former winner, has lost multiple brand deals.  The largest one she lost was a partnership with Olay.

Some of these players used to be my favorites in their original season including Memphis and Dani, but there is no love lost for me with them now.  Season 15 of big brother is largely remembered for the racist comments made by a number of houseguests, even though it had some of the best gameplay in any season.  I have a suspicion that this season will have a similar outcome.  It is just a question of will CBS air this or will they try to hide it.

  1. What a strange show, although I must admit that when I’m in Israel I watch the Israeli counterpart of the show with my grandma. While the situation you described isn’t the best, there is no denying that the show and the interactions between everyone is very entertaining.

  2. Well after hearing you talk about this in class, I felt that I had to read your post, and wow, these people sound like horrible people. Nicole deserves to loose her brand deals. I wonder if Ian has found out and if he did how he feels.

    1. Ian is currently sequestered for the jury and will vote for the winner, so he doesn't know now but im sure he will once the show ends next month.
