Trapped inside for weeks at a time life became a repetitive loop. Wake up, open my laptop, eat lunch, FaceTime a friend, open zoom, check Instagram, do work, send a Snap, close zoom for the day, watch Tik Tok after Tik Tok. FaceTime another friend eat dinner go to bed. What has life become. With only a few days notice, life as we knew it changed forever. Stuck at home, confined to one place for 100 days and counting had me thinking. Like everyone else, I realized during this pandemic I have taken a lot of things for granted including my freedom, my friendships, and even the slightest activities such as going to the grocery store. With all of the superficial entities in life ripped away from me and everyone else in America in an instant, we were left with the bare minimum. And in replace of those superficial aspects of life came stress, panic, isolation and fear of the unknown. The fast paced life we were living came to a complete stop. One thing I have discovered and admired during this pandemic is how resilient human beings could be. This isn’t the first time in history where humans were put in a very uncomfortable situation. From enduring countless wars, to prior disease outbreaks, to persecution to poverty and famine. I was able to empathize with the people of the past and find comfort knowing we are not the first human beings to suffer. I looked to the past for strength when I felt weak and scared during this time. Gaining wisdom from those who had to remain resilient despite a crumbling world. In all honestly looking at the past has given me a sense of hope that things will get better. Although many humans throughout history have endured trauma, they have found ways to overcome their struggle. I have hope that this will end soon and am so proud of how our society has come together and has united as one to combat this pandemic.
Do you think people in the future will look back to us and this time period for guidance?

Quarantine has given me a very similar outlook on life and I was able to totally sympathize with you through this!! I agree we honestly take a lot for granted and being stuck inside has given me a huge opportunity to truly understand the privilege I have and struggle of others. I'm sure COVID-19 will get it's own section in future textbooks, so people will sort of be forced to learn about what happened. I think we subconsciously guide ourselves based on our history, so surely people in the future will look back at this quarantine, whether that's for better or worse though is undecided haha.
ReplyDeleteYour outlook throughout quarantine is very relatable! We do take many things for granted and I definitely think people in the future will look back to us and this time period for guidance
