Dana Levine -- Week 8 -- Exhaustion

 Disclaimer: this was supposed to be for last week, but then I realized it was “Pick-A-Poet”...

I don’t think I’m the only one who has not been sleeping enough. I don’t know why, but I have been so exhausted this week to the point where I cannot handle it. It is only Wednesday, and I have taken 3 naps this week!!!!! This might not seem crazy to you, but anyone who knows me knows that I take 2 naps a year: one on Rosh Hashanah in between services and one on Yom Kippur to pass the time of fasting also in between services. No matter how tired I am, I am just not able to take naps. So I am utterly shocked that in 3 days I have taken 3 naps. I have been uncomfortably exhausted every day for no reason. I have gotten less sleep before than I have been getting this week, so I don’t know why this week out of any other week I am feeling this way.

Even after I nap, I wake up so confused and feeling gross. I am also equally as tired as when I fell asleep. I don’t understand why people enjoy naps and plan that they are going to take naps when they are tired. This is so out of my element. And none of these naps were even planned. My body basically just shut down from exhaustion as I was laying in bed at 3pm. This afternoon I was laying in bed, and I was so exhausted I could barely function to scroll through my phone. I fell asleep and when I woke up I was so confused. My thoughts went something like this: What time is it? What day is it? Did I miss school? Did I sleep past my alarm and miss a whole day of school??? Oh. wait...I had online school already today. I thought it was a new day. This is why I hate naps://

I know I’m not normal for never taking naps, but do people really enjoy naps??? Like I could never plan that I will go take a nap after school...it would just never happen. Please explain to me why you enjoy naps if you do, because I will never understand it. You waste time napping and wake up even more tired. Maybe that’s just me…Let me know if and why you enjoy naps because I genuinely don’t get it.

  1. Yeah, I think we've all been staring at our computers for online school way too much and homework and college apps on top of class doesn't help. I barely sleep at night so I probably take at least one nap a week just to catch up on sleep and feel as though I wasted the day afterwards. But its necessary

  2. Honestly, I've been hearing this from everyone. I really think that the weirdness of the school year (and the world in general right now) has everyone feeling more exhausted. It's a trauma reaction, I think, to what's been going on the last 8 months or so. I really hope things start to look up and we all gain more energy and less stress in our lives! Meanwhile, I have to go... time for a nap!

  3. I never nap because I also think its gross. Like once i'm up for the day I have to be productive. I think that this year we're being overworked and it is causing fatigue for everyone. Hopefully stuff calms down soon.

  4. I totally agree! I recently wrote a blog on naps too, because I used to hate naps but now I'll take quick power nap once in a while to recharge for the rest of the day. It's definitely taxing on the mind and the body to be staring at a screen all day, so it's understandable that we are all more fatigued recently.

  5. Last month I've been having a lot of sleeping issues for whatever reason. I take naps pretty frequently, but for pretty much all of October I would experience sleep paralysis way more often than normal. Spooooky
