Josh Rosenblatt Week 5 - Headaches from Homework

As the school year has continued and everyone has started to get settled into their classes, the students workload has significantly increased, as to be expected.  Whether it’s more projects, essays, or just homework in general, it is beginning to pile up for a lot of us.  Yet, we knew what we were getting into when we chose these courses to take… well most courses at least.

A majority of the teachers who give assignments either give short daily assignments that only take a few minutes to complete, or projects that take longer to complete but give more time to do so.  These types of assignments are greatly appreciated by the students and if we can’t manage to complete them, then it is our own fault.  However, there are also some teachers who tend to give either longer daily assignments or multiple shorter assignments daily.  When the students complain about having too much work, it is mostly these types of assignments that we complain about.  For instance last night, I had over two hours of work from one class that was due today and was only assigned last class.  It’s not right!

These types of assignments leave us no time to have any free time during the day to spend with family, as we are also occupied by the college process.  I know a lot of people who are not done with their standardized testing, or still have to write their college essays.  There is not enough time in the day to do all of this work and studying as well as be a teenager in their senior year of high school.  Especially now that we are on zoom over half of the time, I find myself on my computer for over 14 hours a day on most days.  It is not healthy for me, and I am suffering daily headaches from it.

Can we try to limit daily homework?

  1. I agree with the college process that to have homework on top is difficult, but I have not felt extremely overwhelmed. I think time management will definitely help and over 2 hours of homework is perfectly normal.
