Resilient Class of 2021 Week 6-- Sarah Louis

Class of 2021

Right now is a very stressful time. Many think that junior year is the hardest time in high school, but I would think many of us would beg to differ that the first semester of Senior year happens to be just as difficult or even harder. Especially during this unprecedented time, we have to finish off our high school experience strong keeping up our extracurricular activities, grades, taking standardized tests, applying to college, attending information sessions virtually, and maintaining our school work in an in-school/online format.

Lately, I've found myself searching online "Ways to Reduce Stress" especially when I feel overwhelmed. In order to feel more at ease, I've started to take Yoga classes, go on daily runs, and listen to calm music. It is actually scientifically proven that working out causes the body to release endorphins while calm music has been proven to alleviate stress and release tension. I have been much more organized than usual, as well, in order to prioritize my obligations in order to avoid feeling overwhelmed. It is quite extraordinary that a global pandemic is currently going on and that no expectations have been lowered.

I would say the class of 2021 has had to be just as strong as the class of 2020. The class of 2020 was sadly deprived of the majority of the second semester of their senior year while our class is most likely going to be deprived of the first semester of our senior year.  It is so inspiring to look around and see how strong the senior class is and frankly everyone around the world. In one day our whole life was uprooted and we had to find strength from within to maintain every aspect of our lives virtually.

Continue classes, remain focus and strive to succeed and not let global events completely stop us in our tracks.

In all honesty, I just hope that class of 2021 gets a more "normal" second semester with prom and graduation. Though I do know when we all look back on this time in history, we will be amazed that we lived through it and started our senior year, the best year of high school, online. We are a class that adapts during tough times works hard, and is the resilient class of 2021.

What is your perspective about the expectations we have had to uphold during this time?
