Picking your nose is perfectly normal

I know it's kinda gross, and we've all seen that one little kid who picks his nose and then eats it, but seriously think about it. Mucus builds up in your nose as a means of containing potentially harmful microbes and preventing them from reaching more vulnerable tissue, much like the build-up of ear wax in our bodies. Now, people clean out their ear wax, do they not? How is this different from picking your nose, fundamentally? Of course, it's understandably viewed as unsightly to pick your nose in public, but I notice many people regard any form of nose-picking as holding some sort of stigma, even though it's just normal bodily maintenance that discards excess mucus and trapped pathogens, and clears up a breathing airway.

This does not only apply to nose-picking, it's just a prime example of something that is considered socially uncouth despite making having a practical reason for existing and being accepted in slightly different forms. Body hair is gross, but don't wear too much makeup because you want to look natural, but definitely but concealer over those naturally formed pimples since those are icky and risk aggravating your skin more. People are very good at abiding by these norms that are often contradictory and don't really make sense if you think about them too much.

Anyway something something society bad I'm not gonna spend half a page telling you why peer pressure and social norms are whack in the form of talking about boogers. I don't really feel like I can say a lot more without just stretchings things out. I needed to write about something and this kind of sprang to mind and if I can either crank something resembling a blog post or keep worrying about trying to make a good post until it's a month later and I'm 4 posts behind. Make a lot of things, many of them will be bad, but you can't let this convince you to stop making things, this type of bad is often forgettable, inconsequential, this type of bad will be outshined by the good. Make a lot of things. Most of them will be bad, but you'll make some good things too, and the good things are the things you'll remember. This post might not be the best example since we're graded on it, but I've spent too much time trying to figure out how to do these things right and to use the right words that I stopped making things entirely, and I've honestly lost the ability to care about having a good grade sometime in our junior year. Well that was pretty angsty teen of me, I'm gonna leave now, wow this is an incomprehensible mess maybe I'll try and make something coherent of it all next week.

  1. The thing that you said about the end about making a lot of things... most of them bad, but maybe a couple of them good--thats exactly my philosophy when it comes to tiktok. I frequently post embarrassing videos that are bad quality, but eventually someone might find one or two of them entertaining. Who knows? Maybe one day I'll go viral!
