Why is Johnny B. Goode so hard? I’ve been playing guitar for four months now, and working on this song for two weeks, yet all I have to show is half of the intro of the song and a sore finger. I’m persistent, however, as the song is just too good for me to not to want to play it. The song is especially hard as I am still not as proficient with barre chords as I am with open chords and my knowledge of the fretboard is elementary. I play the guitar, on average, about an hour a day and have been devoting at least 15 minutes a day to this one song for the past week.
Learning new songs on the guitar is extremely rewarding and fun. I have an app in which all the chords and tabs of any song are made by people in the community and uploaded. If I’m learning a new song I just choose the highest rated one and go from there. Although, for a song such as Johnny B. Goode I have been using this youtube video to teach myself the song as it’s more helpful than reading the tabs. The lessons on youtube are great as I’m able to pause, go ahead, or go back in the video and learn the song at my own pace.
Hopefully, I’ll learn Johnny B. Goode before getting a new amp, so I can get distortion when I play, which would be sick. Once that I get that new amp, all the hard rock riffs I know are going to sound ten times better. Until then, I have time to master them and learn some more.
