Bella Furst Week 9 | Hurricane, College Applications, and Dislocated Limbs

Hurricane, College Applications, and Dislocated Limbs

I am convinced that this past week, long weekend, whatever thing, was perhaps the hardest few days for me this entire year. I experienced the lovely combination of losing power for three days, moving to a new house, and submitting last minute college applications and materials within the span of about 5 days. Holy heck, it sucked.

The hurricane wasn’t so bad at first. We were worried some areas of New Orleans would flood, but we were living in an area that wasn't a flood zone so we didn’t worry much about it. However, we lost power for three days and it consequently turned out to be the same week of winter approaching. No power and 50 degree weather don’t mesh well with my little Florida body. It was painful. But, I did enjoy reading books and manga in the dark with nothing more than a lantern. It has a certain eerie, comforting feeling (that sounds contradictory but it’s a real feeling!), but it was kind of nice to forget all realms of time and read.

The only negative thing about the power loss was not being able to polish my essays up and finish last minute edits until literally October 31st, the day right before my applications for my top-choice schools were due. Which would’ve been somewhat okay if I wasn’t also helping my brother and his fiancee pack up all their stuff to move to the new house. It ended up being okay (thank goodness) and I turned in my applications that very night! One day early, go Bella!

Only downside-- my body pain. I have a connective-tissue disorder and basically my limbs and joints just dislocate like all the time. While moving, my legs just sort of decided to keep popping in and out of the sockets, and then my wrists decided to join the party, and then my shoulders… it wasn’t great. I still feel exhausted from the weekend move and my joints haven’t all relocated yet so it’s been a real struggle in the world of Bella Furst. I am enjoying the perks of my own space as opposed to the living room pull-out sofa (with cats jumping on my throat to wake me up at 4 am because they’re hungry), so that’s been nice, too. I’m just so happy this weekend is over. I only have a few applications left to do for colleges and safety-schools and whatnot, but all in all, this weekend-break made me want to tear my limbs off (I guess my body had that planned anyways).

What was your long weekend-break like?

  1. My long weekend break mainly comprised of me working on college applications as well. I have been quite surprised that first semester of senior year mirrored my junior year with the amount of work I have received and have had to accomplish. I am excited to be done with the college process as it has been quite extensive and time consuming.
