Driving on the Highway - Josh Rosenblatt Week 10

So it has come up this past week that a few of my classmates have yet to drive on the highway.  I don’t understand how or why this is the case for anybody my age.  Even if it's not hour long car rides, I use the highway to get from Glades to Linton just because it’s quicker.  There is a constant flow of traffic, no stop signs, and no red lights.  The other day after school, I had to get something from my mom while she was at work.  So I just took the turnpike up to Atlantic and I was there in 15 minutes from the time I left school.  Had I taken streets, it could’ve taken me over 45 minutes.

I am writing this after I split a four hour drive with my dad and honestly I really enjoyed it.  It’s nice not having to worry about anything dragging on your road trip.  You just have to worry about the cars around you and how fast you are going, which is at your own control.  You don’t have to speed like crazy, just stay to the right.

If I’m being honest, I’d rather get in a car with someone if they’re taking the highway than taking streets.  I know some are the opposite, but they’re the same people who are too scared to get on the highway themselves.  The highway makes life a lot easier.

Anyone else think the highway is better than streets?

  1. EXACTLY!!!!! Its literally just straight like its not hard!!!!! and you are more likely to get in an accident if you dont pay attention when someone is stopping at a red light!! accidents on the highway are rare! but when they do happen, they are more serious.

  2. Maybe it's just because I've still never tried driving on the highway but it absolutely terrifies me. I drive like a little old lady and that means really really slowly, the speed of the highway is so intimidating. To be honest I don't even have my license yet but I intend to at least try it before I go to take the test! The way you describe it makes me a bit more confident that I won't get in a crash the second I get on.

    1. The hardest part is getting on, but once you are on and comfortable, it's really easy driving

  3. This seems like an attack on Dana (which it should be), but, in my opinion, if you have your license you should be capable of going on the highway.

  4. This is so true. It can be daunting at first, but once you get used to the fast pace and flow of traffic, the highway can feel much more comfortable than normal streets. And on the highway, you never have to worry about an inattentive driver running a red light, or someone jaywalking.

  5. I agree with this fully, there should be no difference in whether someone can drive on the highway or not.

  6. I actually love driving on the highway!! When people tell me they're scared, I get it, but I feel like it's just something every driver needs to learn to do.

  7. I think the highway is actually safer than normal streets. Lights and especially intersections provide the gravest threat to drivers' safety.
