Week 10 - When Heroes Fly - Noah Rubin

So after watching all of YouTube, I decided I should branch out and watch some Netflix - of course. It’s not like finishing YouTube was a sign to stop staring at my screen or anything… After searching around for a bit, I decided to type ‘Israel’ into the search bar to see if there were any good Israeli shows that I hadn’t already watched. I also shut off the English dubbing and kept the original Hebrew so that I can be more exposed to the language. One of the first suggestions was, When Heroes Fly. It’s a show about a group of 4 Israeli guys who reunite many years after they served in the army together for one last ‘mission’ to find Yaelli - one of the guy’s sister and anothers girlfriend. She reportedly went missing after a car accident in South America, but after one of the friends happened to see a photo of her in the Bogota newspaper, the friends decide to find out if maybe she is really still alive.

The story isn’t so realistic, but nevertheless it is still a great show and is exciting to watch. There is character development and they regularly incorporate flashbacks to give greater context into what the characters are thinking/remembering.

I’ve only watched the first few episodes, but I’m really looking forward to seeing how the show ends. It’s only 1 season of 10 episodes, but, I of course already looked it up and they are working on a season 2 due to the enormous popularity of the show.

Looking forward to telling you all how the rest of the show is!

  1. Lydia made us watch the beginning in Hebrew last year and I actually went home and finished the season (very rare for me).
