Last week, as many know, sports games started up again! I have played basketball for my whole life so to hear that it might not happen for my senior year upset me. I did everything I could to make sure we had a team, including convincing Zoey to play! I have to admit it is very entertaining watching her learn to play basketball for the first time in her life--She is catching on very quickly, though!!
Anyway, last week we had our first game and it was the best feeling! To get to be in the gym again playing a real game against another team with people in the bleachers cheering you on was a feeling I missed and haven’t gotten to experience since COVID began. My happiness was through the roof at the fact that I was finally able to be back on the court.
As far as COVID goes and the precautions everyone took, the other team did not wear masks and we had the option to choose what we, as well as our parents, felt comfortable with. Everyone on our team wore a mask, which made it that much harder to breath, let alone we only had 7 players and I, as well as 3 other girls, played the full game. I felt pretty safe playing, to be completely honest, and it has been over a week with no symptoms, so crossing my fingers I’m in the clear from that game at least. I didn’t feel like I was in any conditions that I was in extremely close contact with someone from the other team for any extended period of time, as crazy as that might sound. We were obviously not 6 feet apart, but I felt as safe as could be possible playing in a sports game.
The score of the game was close, until the last quarter when we finally got ahead and got some momentum--keep in mind this was only our first game and the other team had been playing games since November. I am looking forward to the rest of the season and to hopefully winning more games and competing with the rest of the teams! All in all, words can’t describe how good it felt to be back on the court, playing competitively, as if life were normal again.
It must feel so nice to be playing again! I don't play sports, but I do dance and I find myself missing the dance studio a lot these days (stuff from home just isn't the same) :/ It's great that you guys chose to stay safe even though the masks made it harder! It's always so tempting to do things w/o masks but it's always a nice feeling knowing that you're protecting yourself and others around you (sometimes I remind myself that it's just a piece of fabric lol) Those pictures are so cute btw :)
