Sammy Hodes Week 14 - Relaxing Through Music

It's really easy nowadays to be stressed. One way that I really enjoy relieving my stress is by listening to music. I know a lot of people consider music like art or whatever but that's not really the basis of my thoughts. I more just like relaxing to songs where the lyrics kinda speak to me. To me in particular, some artists, have the ability to just calm me down. Whether it be through the beat or what the singer is saying I always find it easy to calm down when i'm listening to some music

I even have specific playlists designed for whatever my mood may be. For example, I have a beach playlist, a late night playlist, a happy playlist, a sad playlist, a party playlist, a rap playlist, an EDM playlist, and so much more. These playlists make it very easy for me to just sit back, close my eyes, and enjoy depending on my mood.

I fully encourage anyone to focus on music as a way of relieving stress. Even if you're not musical and are more into athletics, like me, you will find it very easy to calm yourself down or enjoy a situation more if you're music is organized based on your feelings.

  1. This is a very interesting concept. Today in pre med club we learned about the association between music and stress levels. For example we learned that the reason music is played in elevators is to lower anxiety levels some might face being trapped in an enclosed space (elevator). I personally also use music in a therapeutic sense where I am able to play slow music to reduce my stress levels.

  2. I'm totally the same way. I also sort playlists by mood and even have an entire playlist dedicated to songs that make me instantly relax and drift away, if that makes any sense. I think it's really incredible that so many people can turn to music (whether producing or listening) as a form of relieving stress and I don't think I could make it through the day without music (does this count as addiction...?) But in any case, I think that being able to connect with lyrics is a really great feeling because it makes you feel "less alone" and sometimes, that's just what we need.

  3. I am most definitely on the same page! Music is one of the best ways to calm down. Music has just the most insane power to change how you're feeling. I have a playlist called "cryin alone in my room" and it just feels so nice to play and helps me cry and release stress! Songs with a good beat are amazing, but for me relatable lyrics are really the key to connecting :)
(Also funny how we chose similar topics for this week!)

Film awards like the Oscars often have a “best-animated film” category, and this is dumb. It’s like having a “best live-action” award. It’...
