The Most Handsome Coach's Team Advances

Let’s go ladssssss!!!!!!!!!!! Yesterday at approximately 5:42 the Donna Klein Eagles Men’s Soccer Team beat Berean Christian in a highly contested district semi-final. The game ended at 0-0 after overtime, so we went to a penalty shootout. We beat them 4-2 in the penalty shootout with our goalkeeper, Ari Mayzel, saving two of their shots. The moment we won was almost surreal as we went into this game as heavy underdogs. The last time we played against Berean Christian, they beat us 5-0. Us beating them in the semi-finals this year on penalties was almost poetic, as last year they sent us out of the competition on penalties in the quarter-finals. We all knew going into this game that if we lost then the season would be over and it would be the seniors’ final soccer game for the school. Determined to keep this from happening we all worked hard and left everything out on the field. I remember being so dehydrated I was a bit dizzy.

So what does this mean for the remainder of the season? Well, we are now scheduled to play against Trinity Christian in the district finals and we also automatically qualified for the first round of regionals. Depending on who wins the district final will determine who is the #1 seed and the #2 seed. The finalists from each district in our region will then have a tournament and the winner goes to states, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Actually, no, we’re going all the way. We’re going to the national championship where Noah is going to score the winning goal, then be sent off by a blue card. For those confused, a blue card is a red card, just it doesn’t cause the person to miss the next game. Blue cards are only used in high school soccer, essentially, as red cards will invoke suspensions. You still are sent off and not allowed to play the rest of the match, however, and you can’t substitute someone in so your team has to play with a man down. Noah has gotten two blue cards so far this year, against the same team lol. One was yesterday, we played the last 10 minutes of the game with one less player than the other team. I always tell Noah “play smart, don’t let your emotions get the best of you.” Does he listen? No. Ma Na’aseh… He’s a kid he’s a kid.

I want to give a shoutout to Mr. Bowman and all the other fans that came out to watch us yesterday and chanted “Let’s Go Eagles” until their throats were hoarse. Hopefully, everyone can make it to our game next Wednesday at 3:30 against Trinity Christian at their home field.

  1. I was super bummed when our last home game got canceled because of Covid, but who knows if we would've won yesterday if that didn't happen. Now we play Trinity on their home turf. Hopefully Noah can stay on the field and finish out the game

  2. That game was insane - when I went out, I was so annoyed and pissed at both the refs and myself... I should've been more careful (I especially didn't have to tackle #8 in the first quarter). These players get me so mad, but I'm going to do my best on Wednesday to stay focused and stay in the game.

Oh and by the way ~ Ari's definitely the MVP.

  3. Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved..Don't forget to think big all the time and whatever your dream is , it is not too late to achieve it. Coach Luis

  4. Congrats boys that's so hype. That's a bummer about your last home game, though. Good luck with the rest of your season.

  5. We need everyone to come out to the finals next week. We are going to bring the championship home (hopefully without Noah being ejected).
