Week 16- Sarah Louis Alternative medicine

 Alternative Medication

When I was diagnosed with Lupus in 7th grade I had to change my lifestyle in order to reduce inflammation in my body. I would take medication and vitamins prescribed by my doctor. Yet, when my mom looked online she discovered that working with alternative medicine paired with Western Medicine practices could enhance my healing process. Therefore I worked with a nutritionist and an acupuncturist to improve my health. I was very skeptical as I did not believe that changing my diet and accupunture/homeopathic remedies could heal me, but I was completely wrong.

Turns out alternative medicine techniques are super helpful and I would highly recommend! I ended up cutting out inflammatory foods such as dairy and gluten while I would go to weekly accuptunturre appointments. Accupunture is an ancient Chinese form of medication used for thousands of years where an acupuncturist sticks needles in various locations throughout the body to reduce inflammation and pain. Many athletes also do accupunturre to get rid of injuries and sttrained muscles caused from their sport.

One day I would like to earn a MD and it is so important that I was introduced to Eastern Medicine so that I could be open minded to healing methods such as acupuncture in comparison to being a close minded Western Medicine oriented physician.

Every week I still go to my accupunturre appointment. It has eased my pain tremendously and my inflammation in my body has subsided dramatically. I still try to keep my intake of dairy and gluten down as well to decrease inflammation levels. Before this I had no idea that certain foods could lower and elevate white blood cells. So if you ask me Eastern medicine paired with Western medicine is the perfect formula to get a disease into remission :)

    Have you tried accupunture?
