Florence Fuller - Week 21 - Noah Rubin

I’ve volunteered at Florence Fuller for years now, and working with their children and staff has always been easy, fun, and meaningful. I was first drawn to the Florence fuller centers because of 2 things: their strong mission and organized team. Florence Fuller serves children who are in great need - many who are low income, from single parent-households, wondering where there next meal will come from, and struggling in school. Florence Fuller provides its children with mentors, activities, snacks, and even dinner. Being able to come in as a mentor and teacher for the children was so exciting to me. In addition their staff is incredible - and I would challenge you to find non profit organizations with better management and attention to detail. They make sure every child, family, and volunteer is taken care of.

I have had the privilege of teaching computer programming to elementary school children at Florence Fuller for 3 years now, and I still love it every day. It was sad to realize that without our instruction, these children wouldn’t be introduced to coding until much later in their public school careers. My organization, canCode, teaches these children fundamental computer programming through thte creation of a video game, and the Florence Fuller children have been super receptive.

I personally have seen myself improve in my public speaking skills and leadership skills as a direct result of volunteering at Florence Fuller Child Development Centers. Not only that, I have seen my peers public speaking skills and leadership skills improve greatly as a result of working with the children at Florence Fuller. I would definitely recommend volunteering at the Florence Fuller centers because it is so gratifying to work with the children and you’ll even improve yourself along the way too!
