Yesterday in tennis we played Sherridan Hills again, and every time we play them I always have a great time. If you read my blog post from a few weeks ago, I dove in tennis and got amazing compliments from the other team’s coaches; this was the same team. Also in basketball, this was the team we played in the semi-finals and I scored like 30 pts. against, which was so fun.
Back to yesterday, even though I lost after being up by a lot (i started to feel really weak and out of it) I still had an amazing time. After the match, my opponent’s mom came up to me and was like even though my daughter is super quiet, she remembers you from basketball and volleyball and really admires you and I just wanted to say that you are one hell of an athlete and a great job today. She was so nice and her comment and the coach’s comments too really lifted my mood after I lost an extremely long and tough match. Also after my singles match, I was supposed to play doubles, but when I took my shoe and sock off to put a band-aid on a blister on the back of my foot my coach and mom saw that I didn't have skin on three of my toes (I tripped and skinned my toes on the sidewalk), they wouldn't let me play even though I insisted I was fine.
So later on in the night, I was on the phone with my friend Claire telling her about my match and what my opponent’s mom said and I had a realization. During my basketball game, I was going in for a layup on a fast break, and I saw that my teammate was next to me and I could’ve passed the ball, but I also saw one of the other team’s players trailing me and I knew that this player would specifically foul me, and I knew I would make the shot. She did foul me and I did make the shot and my free throw. The way she fouled me was particularly dangerous, as she fouled me while I was mid-air. Right before my free throw, the ref told her that she could not do that again since it’s dangerous and made a joke asking her how she would like to be pushed in the back while she was in the air. Then I put two and two together; the girl who fouled me was the same girl I played yesterday and it was just a full-circle moment.
