Week 22 - Yakov Wahnich - The Last One

Since this is the last blog post of the year, and I guess the last blog post of high school, I think it’s only fitting to talk about our futures and all that stuff.

A little while back, I saw this thing on social media about live advice from the Harvard graduates of 1963. At their 50th class reunion, they were asked to give some advice to younger generations on topics like business, happiness, family, fulfillment - basically life lessons in general. They compiled a list of all this advice, which is now called “If I Knew Then” (you can read through it here). There was one quote in specific that stood out to me:

“Enjoy the journey! Each time and situation — even the most difficult ones — has blessings and joys associated if you look and appreciate them.”

I think this pertains to our class quite significantly. Reflecting on the past year, with COVID, quarantine, college apps, and everything in between, the year has definitely had “difficult times.” But, I think it’s important to recognize and be grateful for the good parts too. If you look back on this class’ blogs from the past year, you can see the perfect example of this. Sure, we had our fair share of bummer blogs highlighting the harder times, but there were also blogs about various skills learned during quarantine, movie reviews, insightful discussions, new and exciting experiences, and even a surprisingly accurate candy analysis. Anyways, I guess the lesson learned from this past year is to appreciate the silver linings in a seemly gloomy cloud, and when times get difficult, try to remember that life is a journey and we're here to enjoy it.

  2. This was really nice to read, as I feel your post really encompasses all the different emotions our class probably feels. In just this one year, we've been through many ups and downs so I think it's crazy how the Harvard graduates from back then, gave advice that is so relevant today.
