Gabriel Winter- Pick a poet- Elegy for a Year by Joseph Fasano

 "Elegy For a Year"

By Joseph Fasano

The poem "Elgy for a Year" by Joseph Fasano takes us on a journey through the eyes of the writer into the quest that was taken this year and shows us the ways that this year has changed him and us. The poem talks about how the year was full of struggles with little to turn to. Everywhere we look there has been heartbreak and failure and nothing good has come of the year. Joseph writes, "Winter, I have watched the lost lie down among their bodies (Fasano)." What Fasano is trying to say by providing us with this line is that many people give up when times are tough and that is what appears to be happening around the world. When bad times come many people instead of fighting decide that it is to much and decide that it is just time to lie down and give up. I very much enjoyed this poem because I felt that it really could be applied to this year with the Coronavirus affecting us all and the feeling of all of us needing a break from this tragedy. The moral of this poem is that hard times may come but there is always something to look forward to and we must look ahead to what is to come rather than look back on what has happened.
