Sienna Tohar -- Week 21 -- Warning! Do Not Buy!!

Okay, I’m not actually going to bash anything specific, but seriously, online shopping is dangerous. We all know how easy it is to fall into one of those internet rabbit holes, find nifty knick-knacks, and become so easily fascinated by something we just discovered.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but being at home all the time has made me so excited to do online shopping and it’s such a terrible habit. And what’s worse is that not only do I deep dive into full research sessions about whatever I’m going to buy before purchasing it (and I do go through all the mental stages of “am I really going to use this? Can I go on without it?”), but I find myself actually obsessing over it. For instance, I’ve turned into one of those people who likes to count down the days until whenever something ships, then when it does, I like to take the tracking number of an order, and check for updates every.single.day. Additionally, say I’m really excited about getting something from a specific brand, I’ll go and check that brand on social media to see if there’s anything posted that relates to what I just bought! And all this solely because of my excitement.

Not that I haven’t been doing other things in quarantine (especially healthier activities to ground myself), but I wish I just invested more time into cool things like learning how to make banana bread for myself (and totally not depending on my mom for her awesome banana bread), learning how to use a sewing machine, or how to knit, or make a short film, or randomly become really good at origami, or at least something a little more useful than shopping (although I do enjoy supporting small businesses)!

And don’t get me wrong, I’ve still been doing a lot of art, dancing, some writing, styling, designing, even meditations here and there, etc., but (and I HATE using this excuse), because I’m so drained from academic work and hours of zoom, I’m so tired everyday that maybe that’s the reason shopping seems so fun. All you do is click a few buttons to place an order and look forward to when it comes (and/or do all the extra stuff if you’re like me :| )

Anyway, I tried to avoid writing posts about my school stress, so I hope this wasn’t such a bad post. Is anyone else dealing with this online shopping addiction, too?? Or, even better, does anyone have advice?
